Transparent plastic disposable lighter barrels are made of SAN which is which is a copolymer of acrylonitrile and styrene and not recyclable.

Like polystyrene itself, it is optically transparent and brittle in mechanical behaviour.

Styrene Acrylonitrile (SAN) is mainly used unreinforced for products that must be transparent but also chemically resistant. Typical applications include cigarette lighters, battery casings and transparent parts for domestic appliances. SAN resins are widely used for making containers for cosmetics and personal care products like toothbrushes and other makeup brushes. The resin is also used for making cups, trays, covers, containers, cassette cases, juicers, and mixers, disposable lighters, hangers, door knobs, and so on.
