Using LEGO blocks, I made ” Pixelator ” which turns iPad display into mosaic-like pixel art .

I got a hint from a pixelator for iPad using toy parts that was introduced on an overseas site, and since the parts are not available in Japan, I made it with LEGO.

I used

• LEGO blocks (many)
• 2 sheets of copy paper
• iPad

There are three.

Assemble LEGO as shown in the picture below to make a pixelator grid.

A 3 x 3 square is a pixel, so a total of 5 x 7 = 35 pixels.

Considering the brightness, it is best to use only white pieces, but this time I used what I had on hand.

The time required for the work is about 1 hour.

The completed grid will be slightly larger than the iPad screen.

When using, place copy paper on the top and bottom of this grid.

Find a suitable video source and play it with the iPad’s brightness maximized.

When the surroundings are darkened, the image below is displayed.

It seems that the image divided by blocks is passed through the copy paper, the color and brightness are averaged, and it looks like one big pixel.

Here’s a video of it in action. It’s a little dark, but I think it gives a pixelator-like effect.
