Sea beads
I make these out of ropes gathered from beaches in the Shetland Islands and used guitar strings given to me by musician friends. The ropes and strings are cleaned and the ropes separated to obtain these nylon filaments which are the core of braided ropes. I then make the balls with a lot of stitching and rolling! No two are the same.
They are designed to be worn with the hook hidden inside the bead. The strings are 45cm long (I can supply longer or shorter if required) and the beads 3cm diameter.

Lois Walpole is of Anglo Scottish heritage and trained in Sculpture, Basket Making and Design.
She works full time as an artist/basket maker taking part in and curating national and international exhibitions, working to commission, designing for production, teaching and writing.
She divides her time between the Shetland Islands and the Charente, in south west France, where her studio is based.
